Hawaii Romance

How to keep the spark alive while holidaying with kids

Hawaii is one of those dream destinations near the top of everyone’s bucket list, including your kids’! It just also happens to be one of the most romantic destinations in the world. But romance and family holidays don’t have to be mutually exclusive—here at My Hawaii we’ll show you how to make it happen. So take advantage of our Hawaii romance sale and bring the kids on the trip of a lifetime!

All together

Nothing beats a beach day with your water babies in Waikiki. There are plenty of activities to keep them busy while you and your love soak up the sun, or participate together for some crucial family bonding time. If you’ve had your fill of surf and sand (could you ever?), or the kids have energy to burn, turn your attention to the iconic Diamond Head. It’s an easy walk that takes 90 minutes at a leisurely pace. If you can manage it, beat the crowds with a sunrise hike when the park opens at 6 am.

If the sun isn’t shining or you’re after a different pace, Hawaii has plenty of alternatives. Take a trip to Pearl Harbour for a dose of history the kids will never forget, and spark some deep and meaningful discussions for later. The Polynesian Cultural centre on Oahu’s North Shore is another unmissable attraction. The centre celebrates the cultures of all the different Polynesian islands including Fiji, New Zealand, Tahiti, Samoa, and of course Hawaii. Enjoy some quiet time in the immersive cinema presentation, or join the fun at the award-winning Ali’i Luau. Even something as simple as sitting and watching the sunset together—whether you’re on the beach, at a restaurant, or the private balcony back at the resort—is especially romantic when you’re in Hawaii.

Speaking of restaurants, there are plenty of dining options to suit all tastes (and where taking the littlies along is totally acceptable). Try the family-friendly Goofy Café behind the Hilton Hawaiian Village for breakfast, show up in your swimmers for lunch at the Barefoot Beach Café, and for dinner check out Tiki’s Grill and Bar for live music, a vibrantly cheerful atmosphere, and great kid’s menu.

Alone time

Hawaiian family holidays are the perfect way to spend some quality time together, but that doesn’t mean you and your kids have to be joined at the hip. Most resorts have babysitting services or top-quality kid’s clubs to ensure peace of mind—so you’ll know your kids are cared for (and having a blast!) while you and your love enjoy some alone time. The Hyatt Regency Waikiki offers babysitting in-room with Kama’aina Kids, featuring Hawaiian arts and crafts, games, books, and swimming (upon parental approval). Hilton Hawaiian Village has its own camp available with trained counsellors and a fun yet educational focus. They offer off-property excursions to places like the Honolulu Zoo and Waikiki Aquarium, with the option of full- or half-day programs.
